The popular Nigerian singer, Tiwa Savage shares unknown detail about her love life.
In a radio interview, the mother of one shared her initial motivation to start her music.
The singer spoke with host, Ebuka about her childhood and her experiences growing up.
Tiwa opened up about being bullied for being African and how she tried to kill herself twice.
It was from her bullying experience that she found solace in music because her crush was friends with the bullies.
Determined to make a statement, Tiwa went on to join the school musical to get the attention of the guy – kelvin
She said,
“Then there was a guy I had a crush on and he used to hang out with these girls
they just used to sing these SWV songs so I went up to my music teacher, there was a school play, ‘Sound of Music’
I was like I want to audition but he said auditions are done. But I said I really really think I could do it.
He gave me a song told me to go practice, came back and he looked at me and said
‘you can actually sing’ .That when everything changed, I was 15 at the time”
“I wanted to get the attention of the guy. His name is kelvin, he had green eyes, tall”
We all know that Tiwa did not end up with green-eyed Kelvin but he was the start of her flourishing career.
Following the crush on Kelvin, Tiwa went on to join an agency for back up singer but that was the beginning of Tiwa Savage as we know her.
