The former Lagos state governor and the National leader of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, has distanced himself from the rumour making the rounds that he was behind the shooting and killings that happened at Lekki Tollgate on Tuesday, October 20, 2020, as he also counted his losses in the Lagos EndSARS protests which were reportedly hijacked by some hoodlums.
Speaking on the attacks at Lekki Toll gate, Tinubu said there is no iota of truth in the rumour that he have an investment in the Tollgate adding that the people peddling such rumours were being sponsored by his political enemies to pit him against the state and the Federal Government.
In a statement issued on Sunday, Tinubu admitted that he is a promoter and financial investor in The Nation newspaper and TVC television which were set ablaze by some hoodlums. He said he got prior information that facilities of both The Nation newspaper and TVC were going to be attacked but did not send soldiers or policemen there to prevent the attack, because he didn’t want anyone to die.
According to him, the attacks on TVC and The Nation newspaper were carried out by the hirelings of his political enemies. Tinubu said the present situation does nothing to profit him politically or otherwise.
The former governor noted that the attacks in Lagos state have complicated matters for him noting that many people now wrongfully blame him. Tinubu, however, reiterated his support for Nigerians and affirm their right to protest peacefully.
Tinubu, who is reportedly nursing a Presidential ambition ahead of the 2023 elections stressed that like all well-meaning and patriotic Nigerians, he wants to see an end to all forms of institutionalised brutality.
