Former Big Brother Naija Season 10 housemate, Thelma Lawson, has opened up about the unexpected financial strain that comes with fame, revealing how her life after the reality show has become significantly more expensive than before.
In an exclusive chat with Yanga FM, Lagos, Thelma candidly discussed the pressures that accompany public attention and the high expectations fans have of her appearance and lifestyle since leaving the BBNaija house.
According to the reality TV star, her newfound celebrity status has forced her to maintain a certain image, which comes with a hefty price tag
“This new life is expensive,” she admitted.
When asked why, Thelma explained, “Because you are showing up for events. I came out of the house and found out that I was named ‘the most fashionable.’ Now, I have an audience that wants to see what Thelma is wearing.”
The 30-year-old entrepreneur went on to say that sustaining this image requires a lot of financial investment, not just in her wardrobe, but also in her business ventures.
“So, it’s expensive. Also, because I have a business that requires constant restocking, it’s very, very overwhelming,” she added.
Her comments shed light on the often overlooked reality of post BBNaija fame, where housemates, after gaining massive popularity, face the challenge of keeping up appearances while trying to convert their fame into sustainable success.
Thelma’s revelation has since stirred reactions among fans, with many praising her honesty about the pressures of maintaining a celebrity lifestyle in Nigeria’s entertainment industry.
For Thelma, who rose to fame for her vibrant personality during the show, life after BBNaija may come with glitz and glamour, but as she put it, it also comes with a bill that never stops growing.
