The Ugandan minister who threatens to arrest Patrick Ssenyonjo, the 7 years old Ugandan Kid rapper popularly known as Fresh Kid, gives reasons for her statement.
The Ugandan minister for youth affairs Florence Nakiwala, made this statement due to the allegation that the Kid rapper was not attending school. And that he performs late at nights while his mates are studying in their respective schools.
The minister described the act as child labor and hence, warns the 7 years old rapper to stop rapping and go to school full time. And avoid the penalty of being charged to a juvenile prison. As prescribed in the law. According to the minister,” In the Ugandan constitution, No one under the age of 18 is allowed to work. Therefore, Fresh Kid should not be working but, rather be in school. She added that, anyone found supporting his music career will have to face the law as well”.
Furthermore, in response to the threat, Francis Kamoga, manager of the rapper refuted the claims. In his words, “I discovered Patrick Ssenyonjo in a rural village miming some songs. And I brought him to the city and started paying his school fees”. Mr. Francis added that contrary to what the minister said about his artist Fresh Kid. The boy is in school and attending classes. Moreover he performs over the weekends and does not get paid for it. Therefore is not considered to be working.
