The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has listed famous Nigerian actress, Genevieve Nnaji among the 819 new Academy members.
In a publication on its website, the actress was listed under the category of the actors that were invited while two movies “Lionheart,” and “Road to Yesterday” were mentioned as the project that got her the invitation.
According to the publication, the invitation was extended to 819 artists and executives who have distinguished themselves by their contributions to theatrical motion pictures.
It was gathered that the 2020 class is 45% women, 36% underrepresented ethnic/racial communities, and 49% international from 68 countries.
Among the invited new members, there are 75 Oscar nominees, including 15 winners, and five recipients of Scientific and Technical Awards.
The Academy stated that those who accept the invitations will be the only additions to the Academy’s membership in 2020.

Reacting to the invitation, Genevieve in a tweet thanked the Academy adding that she is honoured to be a member of the family.
The tweet reads “I’m honoured to be a member of the family. Thank you @TheAcademy”
Other categories where new members were invited include casting directors, cinematographers, costume designers, directors, documentary and executives.
Other categories listed in the invitation include Film editors, makeup artists and hairstylists, marketing and public relations, music, producers, production design, sound, visual effects, Short Films and Feature Animation, writers and other members at large.
Academy is a global community of more than 9,000 of the most accomplished artists, filmmakers and executives working in film.
Aside from celebrating and recognizing excellence in filmmaking through the Oscars, the Academy supports a wide range of initiatives to promote the art and science of the movies.
