Elections, elections, elections. The gubernatorial elections are still in full effect as Nigerians elect regional leaders. In Sokoto, Aminu Tambuwal of PDP is standing toe to toe with APC. His entry into governorship race of Sokoto State after he failed to get the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ticket for the presidency had people doubting his capacity.
In 2015, Tambuwal defected to the PDP and that sparked a lot of controversies between the PDP and APC. His relationship with Wammako was always called into question; but Tambuwal was especially helped by his massive works in health, education and agriculture. Interestingly both sides used the power of women with the two parties unleashing their wives in house-to-house campaigns with gifts to housewives.
Governorship elections were supposed to take place on March 9th; and it actually did but Sokoto results were declared inconclusive. This was because the 75403 cancelled votes were way more than the difference of 3413 between the PDP and APC.
While the APC scored 486,145 in the March 9th governorship elections and the PDP scored 489,558, the combined votes at the end of collation yesterday, gave Tambuwal a total of 512,002 votes and Alhaji Ahmed Aliyu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) scored 511,660 votes. The votes margin is 342.
The State Collation/Returning Officer, Prof. Fatima Batul Mukhtar, therefore, declared Tambuwal as the winner of Sokoto Guber polls with a simple majority vote of 342.
