Senator Orji Kalu, a former governor of Abia state, has reacted to nullification of his conviction by the Supreme Court today.
The Supreme Court has nullified the judgment which convicted and sentenced the former governor of Abia State, Orji Uzor-Kalu, to 12 years imprisonment.
At the mention of the case on Tuesday, the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), who led a five-man panel of the court, said it was impossible for the court to proceed to hearing because some of the parties have not been served.
Specifically, the court sentenced him to 14 years for criminal breach of trust, 2 years for misappropriation, 7 years for gratification and 5 years for obtaining valuable public properties without consideration.
“He (counsel) raised the issue at the hearing of the appeal, but there is no ground of appeal, challenging his (appellant’s) sentence, therefore, there is nothing this court can do or say on the issue of his sentence.
