A strange disease has reportedly claimed no fewer than 11 lives in the Lagelu Local Government Area of Oyo State.
Also, five others are hospitalized at the time of filing this report.
Though some residents of the state claim it is an outbreak of cholera, the state government said the claim could not be immediately substantiated.
The state government added that results of samples taken from the victims were still being awaited.
Speaking on the outbreak, the Caretaker Chairman, Lagelu Local Government Area, Mr Kelani Abdullahi, said the cause of the strange disease was being investigated.
However, Abdullahi confirmed that 11 persons have lost their lives to the epidemic while four persons have been discharged.
Meanwhile, the state Commissioner for Health, Dr Bashiru Bello said the samples collected have not confirmed the sickness to be cholera.
According to the commissioner, the health officers sent to the local government to take samples reported the poor unhygienic condition in the area.
It was gathered that the symptoms of the strange disease are similar to Cholera.
