Nigerian author and Nobel Laureate, Professor Wole Soyinka has issued a strong warning about the operation of Amotekun Corps, also known as Western Nigeria Security Network.
Soyinka stressed the need for the frequent training of the Amotekun personnel to prevent them from replicating the atrocities levelled against some operatives of the special anti-robbery squad, SARS.
Speaking on Arise Television, Soyinka noted that the entire national polity need to wake up to secure its survival through Community policing.
According to him, beyond training the Amotekun Corps to protect Nigerians, there is the need to also train their minds so that Amotekun does not become another SARS.
You will recall that the Oyo State Governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde has also reacted to the allegations levelled against some Amotekun Corps in the State.
Speaking on the alleged highhandedness by some members of the Amotekun, the Governor said that investigations would be carried out to address the issues.
