Former Germany midfielder Sidney Sam has come out to say he regrets snubbing Nigeria for Germany. Sam has a Nigerian father but was born in Germany to German mother was invited to but he rejected the offer. The player made a total of five caps for the Germany national team.
The 32-year-old was named in Germany’s 30-man provisional squad for the 2014 FIFA World Cup by Joachim Low but was omitted from the final squad. He was asked about the mistake he made in his career. He said: “Looking back, I can say I was close to winning the World Cup with Germany. Maybe I would have played in it if I had accepted the chance offered by Nigeria.”
Speaking about his regrets he made it known that he would have picked Nigeria. He said when you make a decision you live with the consequences. Maybe that was what Felix Uduokhai saw that made him picked Nigeria over Germany. Sam currently plays for Austrian Bundesliga club SCR Altach.
