The Nigerian Government has revoked the license for the operatorship of Oil Mining Lease 11 in Ogoni land formerly granted to Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC).
The President Muhammadu Buhari led federal government ordered the license given to Shell to be transferred to the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) and its upstream subsidiary, the Nigerian Petroleum Development Company (NPDC).
The NNPC and the NPDC were directed to take over the operatorship of the entire asset, a directive given in accordance to a memo signed by the Chief of Staff to the President.
It was stated in the memo that the entire OML 11 should be taken over by NNPC/NPDC not later than April 30, 2019. Also, the presidency directed NNPC/NPDC to confirm the assumption of the operatorship by May 2, 2019.
