In light of ongoing discussions about the high fees Nigerian artists charge, singer Shallipopi has weighed in, advising his peers to price their services according to their value and success.
In a recent interview with News Central TV, Shallipopi addressed the debate surrounding the cost of performances and appearances by Nigerian artists. He emphasized that the pricing of an artiste’s services should be directly linked to the success and reach of their music.
Shallipopi argued that while some critics claim Nigerian artists have set their fees too high for the local market, this is not necessarily the case. He pointed out that artists who achieve streaming numbers comparable to their American counterparts should be able to charge similar fees.
“It depends on your music and where it has gotten, that is what your price is going to be. If your music has gotten the same stream as an American artiste, you should be charging the same way they charge but if it is not up to that you cannot overcharge,” Shallipopi stated.
His comments offer a perspective that emphasizes the importance of aligning fees with actual music success rather than market assumptions or general perceptions.
