Nigerians Reacts to Simi Tweets
Nigerian popular songstress, Simi, could be said to be a social media addict as she can’t stop telling her mind through social media platforms, especially on the Twitter app. This time, she has got many Nigerians talking on the issue of staying indoor as a means of preventing the spread of coronavirus.
Covid-19 has been an issue worldwide, and the number of cases kept on adding up by the day in Nigeria. As of now, there are over 40 cases nationwide and one death recorded.
One of the most vibrant Nigerian celebrities on social media is the soft-spoken Simi, wife of Afro-pop singer, Adekunle Gold. She knows how to get her 1.8 million followers talking on different topics, from music, sports, religion, politics, and so on.
This time, she supports the move by the government to get people to stay indoor to curtail the dreaded coronavirus. Her tweets have gone wrong with many Nigerians who feel there are many homeless people in the country as well as the poverty level won’t make people sit back at home. They would rather die hustling.
She tweeted @SympLySimi ”I acknowledge my privilege, but they should stay inside. I always speak on the ills of the society, of the government- so I can’t be guilt-tripped. Even if I could be, I don’t mind. Just stay inside. Drink garri if you must, but stay inside. Stay alive. Thank you”
This particular tweet has got people talking. Some said she should have joined other celebrities in giving out this time, while many feel she’s saying that because she’s privileged.
Simi added to the tweet, ”You can keep talking about people that don’t have. I ALREADY KNOW! But if you don’t stay inside now for a few weeks, you will stay inside for much longer. You will have to. That’s the only way every other country is handling it. Hunger or not, you will stay inside. But now is safer”.
Nigerians are not taking it lightly with the sonorous singer. They felt what she said can only happen in a government that has prepared for this time and is willing help in catering for whoever wishes to stay indoors.
