Pro Saudi Arabian club side Al-Hilal have splashed a world record £259m bid for Paris St-Germain forward Kylian Mbappe after they gained permission to speak to Paris St-Germain. The 24-year-old France World Cup winner and captain, who has a year left on his contract, has refused to sign an extension at the French champions and was left the club’s pre-season tour in Japan.
Al-Hilal Wants Kylian Mbappe at all Cost
The most expensive player so far is former Barcelona star Neymar but should Mbappe move to the Saudi side he will have commanded two of the three highest fees paid for a player after joining PSG from Monaco for £166m in 2017. The Saudi side is not the only club coming for this player as Premier League clubs are coming for him too. The likes of Chelsea, Manchester United, Tottenham and Serie A side Inter Milan and Spanish La Liga side Barcelona have all shown interest in the young lad.
The feeling at PSG however is that he has already agreed to join La Liga giants Real Madrid on the expiration of his contract after he said he will only leave PSG at the end of next season as a free agent. Chairman of the club Nasser Al-Khelaifi has made clear his determination to take a tough stance, saying it is “impossible” that Mbappe be allowed to leave on a free transfer in 2024.
There have been suggestions the player will not be selected for an entire year if he refuses to break the present impasse, which would clearly have a negative impact on his hopes of playing for France at Euro 2024. Al-Hilal is one of the clubs owned by Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund. They have already signed Portuguese star Ruben Neves from Wolves and Kalidou Koulibaly from Chelsea this summer.
