The country’s election commission revealed that Museveni won 58.64% of the almost 10 million ballots cast, while leader of the opposition, Bobi Wine received 34.83% of the vote.
Everyeveryng reported that opposition candidate, Bobi Wine identified as Robert Kyagulanyi, alleged that he was under house arrest on Friday after the military invaded his house.
Wine summarily and authoritatively levelled solid accusations against the electoral commission of vote rigging, an allegation the agency has dismissed.
Ugandans voted on Thursday amid a government-ordered internet shutdown which raised questions about the voting process.
Museveni had confirmed that his government directed internet providers to block Facebook and other social media, accusing the platforms of “arrogance.”
