Procrastination; When a person delays or postpones task that is necessary to complete. Procrastination for most people is like being on a drug. It has been described a “thief of time”. It is one of the most unappealing human traits that 1 out of 3 people struggle to defeat in their daily lives. I bet even you reading this right now one task or the other needs attending to right away.
Whether its cluttered wardrobe, a dirty sink, people tend to postpone a certain task because it seems too hard or boring. Then they instead engage in more pleasurable activities. Overcoming procrastination is hard, but there are few steps one can take to raise your productivity to the MAX!.
The keyword is DISCIPLINE;
The ability to be in full control of your actions is Self-discipline and it without a doubt the first and most important step to curbing procrastination. The amount of self-control a person has determines how well they will be able to complete assignments on schedule.
Assess the task at hand and break it into smaller parts to complete one after the other. You may think an activity may be stressful or come with too much work load if you attempt to tackle it all at once.
Another tip;
You can try is to imagine yourself getting a big reward out of completing the task at hand. Think of it as a colossal achievement. The brain is a complex organ & imagination is strong tool. There is no limit to what a person can achieve with the power of imagination.
Picture yourself receiving a gold medal from Barack Obama for completing the task at hand. Your favorite celebrity agreeing to go out on a date with you, whatever makes you happy. In my younger years, I would convince myself I would get a spot on the avengers I was able to complete weeks laundry.
Try doing it immediately;
As difficult as it may seem, solving a problem at once comes with many great rewards. First, you don’t have to worry about it again unless well if you only found a short term solution rather than completely “Handling the situation”. Second is that you give yourself room to focus on other important things you need to take care of.
Another option;
Perform tasks you like together with the ones you find less desirable. Is it your room you’ve yearning to clean but you’re too lazy to do it? Why not do while your favorite TV show is on? Dusting and cleaning may seem less tedious while you watch Annalise Keating get away with another murder.
There is always so much work to do in so little time therefore we find ourselves falling behind schedule due poor or ineffective planning. We end up missing deadlines or show up late to meetings. People who are fond of postponing tasks often swap more pleasurable and less stressful tasks with the ones that may be more challenging but necessary to them.
It’s not unusual to find a person who works in an office buried in heaps of files on their desks that need urgent attention surfing the internet or playing Sudoku on their computer. In the long run, they eventually get the work done but he has to pay a price by either by missing a deadline or get a query from his superior.
