Ibrahim Magu Suspended.
The President, Muhammadu Buhari has suspended the acting chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission(EFCC) , Ibrahim Magu.
Recall that earlier, the President had set up a presidential panel headed by Justice Ayo Salami to probe the numerous allegations of corruption leveled against Magu .
The EFCC Acting Chairman was vigorously interrogated at the Presidential Villa by the Ayo Salami-led panel for hours on Monday June 6 after which he was taken into police custody.
An exclusive source confirmed Ibrahim Magu’s suspension on Tuesday.
The source said, “It is commonsensical that when an investigation of this nature is ongoing, you don’t allow the person being investigated to keep the keys of the office for which he is being investigated.
According to the information given, the source claims that the suspension was needed to ensure a seamless investigation as it would be counterproductive to carry out an investigation while Magu continued in his duties as EFCC. The source continued saying,
“This is because if he keeps the keys, there can be a kind of tampering with documents or evidence.
“It is not logical and it is even undemocratic to allow such to happen.”
Although the Presidential Panel has resumed its sitting at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, the office of President is yet to give a formal statement on the issue.
