The Nigerian Police Command in Ebonyi State has successfully rescued two children aged five and ten from their captors after they were abducted from their home in Abakiliki, Ebonyi State at gunpoint.
Mrs Loveth Odah who is the Command’s Police Public Relation Officer made this known to news reporters in an interview on wednesday in the state.
According to Mrs Odah, who is also a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), the kidnappers had in addition to robbing from the mother and kidnapping her kids, demanded a huge ransom for their release, to the sum of ten million Naira.
After a manhunt by the police in the state, the kidnappers eventually abandoned the kids at Afikpo South Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, and the police reunited the kids with their mother.
The police, however, are still in pursuit of the criminals, with the people collaborating with them also being tracked down, according to the DSP. “Our men are currently in pursuit of the fleeing suspected kidnappers; also investigations are ongoing to unmask possible conspirators with a view to arresting them.”
The DSP assured the public that there is no safe haven for criminals in Ebonyi State, as the police command is intensifying its efforts to have complete surveillance in every part of the state. She also urged the public to come forth with any information about criminal activities in the state, saying this information would be necessary to help “nip crime in the bud”
