2019 is starting to look like the year of live-action adaptation with Lion king in the works set for release late 2019. We already have a pokemon film; Detective Pikachu staring Ryan Reynolds and a sonic the hedgehog film in production with funny man Jim Carrey.
The cartoon Tom and Jerry first appeared in 1940 with William Hanna and Joseph Barbera responsible for producing 114 shorts for MGM. Its has gained so much popularity, still maintained relevance and is indubitably one of the most critically acclaimed cartoons of all time.
At first glance, It may seem like a very odd choice of movie adaptation. How do you even begin to make a Tom and Jerry film? But so far Warner Bros. seem to be adamant in making their first ever live-action version.
Game of throne’s Peter Dinklage is reportedly the top choice for the male lead in the live action adaptation of the animated series Tom & Jerry. He is famous for his iconic role in the TV adaptation of George R.R Martin’s book series; Game of thrones.
Dinklage would be the antagonist of the film named Terrance, It is still uncertain whether Warner Bros. has met with Dinklage, but our fingers are still crossed. Personally, i would say casting Dinklage would be a very smart move because he has a sizable amount of fans from his other TV show; Game of thrones. The studio could bank on this and it may increase the audience of the film when it is eventually released.
Other big names that have been associated with the project so far is the beautiful Oscar nominee Jennifer Lawrence. Also, in October 2018, it was announced that Tim Cook was going to direct the film. Who is Tim Cook you ask? Critically roasted director Tim Cook made the two God awful movies “Ride-along” (2014) and “Fantastic Four” (2015).
