Barcelona midfielder Pedri has been named the 2021 Golden Boy award for the best under-21 player in a European country’s top division. 18-year-old Pedri beat England and Borussia Dortmund midfielder Jude Bellingham to win the prestigious award with a record 199 points.
Pedri Named Golden Boy Player of the Year
Pedri played more minutes than any other Barcelona player last season, going on to play at Euro 2020 and win Olympic silver with Spain. However, he has not played since September because of a thigh injury. The young Spanish star joined Barcelona in October from Las Palmas in 2020.

He signed a new contract with the Catalan club, which includes a one bn euro (£846m) release clause. Borussia Dortmund forward Erling Braut Haaland is the previous winner as he won the award in 2020. The award was first given in 2003. It has since been won by players like Wayne Rooney, Lionel Messi, Sergio Aguero, Raheem Sterling and Kylian Mbappe, among other players.
