The Oyo State Government has ordered traders, mechanics and other artisans to vacate the Alakia airport road interchange to Old-Ife road before the weekend runs out or face sanctions.
The warning was issued by the commissioner for Lands, Housing and Urban Development and officials from the ministry of environment and natural resources. They gave the warning during an inspection tour of flood plain areas around the Alakia road interchange.
According to the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources, Dr Bashir Olarenwaju, the State Government had earlier issued an eviction notice to the traders about three months ago.
Olanrewaju stated that the the Goverr Seyi Makinde-led government issued the warning due to the need to improve the aesthetic values and hygiene along the road especially because of its proximity to the airport.

The commissioner, who frowned at the indiscriminate dumping of refuse on some of the flood plain areas around the interchange, stressed that the state government had prohibited such act.
He revealed that the ministry has made an alternative provision for traders and artisans along that axis.
However, some of the traders and mechanic operators, who agreed to comply accordingly said that the eviction was intended for their well being.
