Forbes Africa has named former Nigeria’s Minister, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala as Africa Person of the Year 2020.
In a tweet, it described Iweala as the continent’s most promising citizen, who led transformation and change on an international stage in the year 2020.
Forbes also named Iweala as the Chair of Gavi, for the equitable distribution of the coveted COVID-19 vaccine in Africa when it arrives.
According to the Organization, Iweala as a finalist and frontrunner in the race to become the next Director-General of the World Trade Organization, WHO is well-positioned to change the narrative of trade.
The Forbes, however, expressed optimism that science will guide the world in coming up with a breakthrough to combat a global pandemic.
Okonjo-Iweala Wins Forbes Award
Reacting, Iweala said dedicated the award to Africans suffering the health and economic impact of Covid19. She revealed that the energy and resilience of Africans inspire her.
Meanwhile, the former minister joined the likes of Akinwumi Adesina, president of the African Development Bank (AfDB), who won the award for his outstanding work at the bank and a sterling career in agriculture and finance in 2019.
You will recall that a former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN Muhammad Sanusi II bagged the award in (2011), while Aliko Dangote won it in (2014).
