Nigerian Railway Corporation, NRC, will hand over the Ticketing and Passengers’ Identification process to a company named Secure ID, on the orders of the Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi.
The Minister, on behalf of the Federal Government, FG, ordered the transfer of the aforementioned duties to the company in charge of the e-ticketing platform for the Abuja-Kaduna rail service.
The decision to swap such duties between the two companies was partly because of the recent train attack that left several people dead and injured as well, as Amaechi believes that this action would help reduce incidents of crime and curb security challenges on the route.
“Even though we cannot eliminate 100 percent crime and corruption, it will reduce the danger of having to run into security crises. So, we know that what we are battling is not crises in our terminals, but on the way.”
Other Reasons Why NRC Handover Duties
The Transport Minister made mention of this when the Infrastructure Concession Regulatory Commission, ICRC, paid a courtesy visit to his office in Abuja and presented the Full Business Case Certificates, FBC for the Lagos-Ibadan and Itakpe-Warri e-ticketing service.
Another reason for this transfer of duty is to block all revenue leakages and increase the income generated from about one hundred million to no fewer than four hundred million as the new target every month.
However, he pointed out that, “the one I think I may disagree with the public is the issue of ticket racketeering. I have spoken with the person in charge of the Abuja-Kaduna e-ticket platform to take over the identification process from NRC.”
