The Nigeria Police Force, NPF has revealed that 31,000 police officers would be deployed for the forthcoming September 19 Edo governorship elections.
The Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, who revealed this stated that the officers will be on ground to protect election officials, materials and voters as well as enforce the rules during the elections.
During a stakeholders’ meeting in Benin, the IGP noted that the massive deployment is to show that misguided political actors will be brought to justice.
However, Adamu enjoined parents and guardians to keep their children and wards away from being used by politicians as thugs as he also promised that the police would be non-partisan in handling the elections.
Speaking on vote-buying, Adamu said the security agencies will be able to perform their jobs easily if politicians desist from vote-buying or doing everything to win the election.
He said the Force is not resting on its oars to ensure that security is top-notch in the state before, during and after the election.
