A spokesperson for the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, Kennie Obateru has blamed the current fuel scarcity in Abuja and its environs on the recently held EndSARS protests.
However, Obateru said the long queues at filling stations would soon disappear because many fuel marketers were now getting the product. It was gathered that petrol stations across Abuja were crowded with people trying to buy fuel while some people have taken advantage of the situation to sell the products at high prices.
Everyevery.ng correspondent, who went around to have first-hand information about the situation reported that many motorists were finding it difficult to buy the product as they queue for many hours hoping to buy it. Some motorists said tanker drivers may be afraid of carrying the products given the rate of attacks and vandalisation during the EndSARS protests.
In the meantime, the NNPC has cautioned motorists not to engage in panic buying of petroleum as the commission also assured of normalcy in the supply of petroleum products.
