Nigeria’s duo of Godwin Olofua and Anuoluwapo Opeyori lost to Japan, the host of the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. They lost their first game in the men’s doubles of the badminton event at the Tokyo Olympics earlier today, Saturday.

They were drawn in Group B with Japan. The two duos Olofua and Opeyori were beaten by Hiroyuki Endo and Yuta Watanabe 2-0 (21-2, 21-13). They will have the chance to bounce back from the defeat if they can win their next game, which comes up on Monday against Denmark.
The Danes had defeated the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC) in their opening group game, putting them in second place after the host nation Japan. Nigeria is in the third-place position while Russia occupies the fourth place position.
