The United Nations health agency, WHO, has declared Nigeria Polio free. This was announced on the regional office in Congo twitter account. According to the announcement, Nigeria has concluded the documentation for Wild Polio virus-free status and it was accepted by the Africa Regional Certification Commission for polio eradication, (ARCC). The tweet also recognised the breakthrough as a historic day for Nigeria, Africa and the Global Polio Programme.

Also commenting on the development, the Executive Director and CEO of the National Primary Health Care Development Agency )NPHCDA), Dr Faisal Shuaib, commended Nigeria on the newly attained status while noting that it is, in fact, a historic day for Nigeria. He added that this new status is significant for Nigeria in various ways. Shuaib commended all the leaders who have contributed to the great feat. He mentioned President Buhari, Aliko Dangote, and Bill Gates as part of the people who have contributed tremendously to this achievement.
