Given the new wave of COVID-19 in Nigeria and other parts of the World, there are strong indications that the Federal government may consider a travel ban.
The Minister of information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, who revealed this on Monday in Abuja noted that the new wave of the virus, both spreads and kills fasters after it has been contracted.
New Wave Of COVID-19
According to him, many students are coming from the United Kingdom, the UK in particular, to join their families in Nigeria for the Yuletide while some Nigerians too may want to travel to the UK for business purposes.
Mohammed said though the government is avoiding the implications of another lockdown, he, however, stated that it may fall back on it as its only resort if the situation warrants the decision.
He further revealed that the Presidential Task Force (PTF) on COVID-19 in Nigeria may recommend another lockdown to the government after its next meeting.
The Minister stressed that the Federal Government will not hesitate in giving the directive if it is the only way Nigerians can be protected from the agony of the new wave of COVID-19.
Meanwhile, Mohammed urged Nigerians to heed the advice of the PTF on hygiene and social distancing, especially in this festive season.
