Despite the criticism that followed the release of the Nextflix movie “Elesin Oba“, Many movie followers have expressed satisfaction with the plot.
Elesin Oba (The King’s Horsemen) is a movie based on Wole Soyinka’s stage play “Death and the King’s Horseman,” which tells the story of a horseman who must sacrifice himself to serve his ruler in the afterlife – but sudden distractions lead to unexpected tragedy.
The movie, directed by Biyi Bandele, featured music artiste Brymo Olawale and prominent actors like Odunlade Adekola, Shafy Bello, Deyemi Okanlawon, Taiwo Ajai-Lycett, and Jide Kosoko.
The movie was released for streaming on November 4 and has been met with mixed reactions from fans and followers of the Nollywood movie.
Here are some of the reactions,
One of the actors, @_deyemi wrote, “Elesin Oba is a work of art – the late Biyi Bandele’s visual rep of Wole Soyinka’s lit masterpiece… but as with any art form you can expect that some, who perhaps lack art appreciation experience, will view it upside down Rgds, Olunde, Deyemi Best In Dying in Nollywood Films”
@Ekitipikin wrote, “But then “ Elesin Oba “ the movie camera quality was lit Pass mark for that.”
@Chief_Konfam wrote, “I just want to say this, Brymo is a box of art. For someone that already has exceptional music skills, his oratory and wonderful performance in Elesin Oba should be applauded. Take a bow King Ọlawale Ọlọfọrọ, You’re GOATED.”
@OmotowaFavour wrote, “Elesin Oba is pure LITERATURE, not a regular movie. Every figure of speech in the movie was intentional including Odunlade being able to understand the White guy and vice versa. It’s an exposure of that Yoruba culture of someone being buried with the king.”
Another tweep wrote, “Just watched Elesin Oba and I am quite surprised at the low ratings and condemnations most of you are giving the movie. Elesin Oba is a damn Literary Masterpiece. The characters, plot, theme and dialogues are top notch and storyline interpreted perfectly.”
The movie is still making numbers on streaming platforms, as it keeps raking in reactions from critiques.
