Hours after announcing the actress as the ambassador for peace, the Nigeria Christian Pilgrimage Commission – NCPC demotes Tonto Dikeh from the positions.
Recall that on the 25th of February, 2021, Tonto Dikeh announced that she had been officially appointed as the Ambassador for Peace by the NCPC while sharing pictures of herself and other dignitaries at the commission’s headquarters.
NCPC Demotes Tonto Dikeh
Barely 8 hours after Tonto Dikeh announced on her Instagram page, the commission released a press statement to counter her claims. The statement from Rev Pam Yakubu, the executive secretary of the NCPC, read in part,
…However, I am suddenly inundated with claims from King Tonto Dikeh herself that she has been officially appointed as Ambassador of peace by this great Commission. This claim has gone viral in the media.
The Commission frowns at this claim which is a clear misrepresentation of what transpired.
The fact remains that the I the Executive Secretary of NCPC never appointed King Tonto Dikeh as an Ambassador of Peace for NCPC and this was not part of her visit therefore this claim by her is spurious, unfounded and should be discarded and seen by all Nigerians as a figment of her imagination.
The statement, however, said it was open to working with her in uniting the nation through various means, including sponsoring pilgrimage.
Owing to this development, Tonto Dikeh shared with her followers in an unofficial statement saying that she would rather take the fall than fight the commission’s decision while revealing she had video proof to show that she did not imagine things as the commission claimed.
Internet users and her fans have been outraged by this demotion and accused the NCPC of bowing to societal pressure. A huge number of people did not deem the actress fit for the Christian ambassadorial role.
