A tragic incident in Italy has left many people shocked after a 36-year-old woman was found dead in a case involving her boyfriend, Marco Panichi.
The 53-year-old man is accused of stabbing his girlfriend to death inside a rented apartment in Vergiate, a town in the province of Varese, northern Italy. The incident reportedly happened on October 22, 2026.
According to reports, the woman was found dead on the bedroom floor with multiple stab wounds to her body and neck. A kitchen knife was discovered close to her body and is believed to have been used in the attack.
After the incident, Panichi reportedly travelled back to Avezzano, in the Abruzzo region, where he went to a police station and reported what had happened. He was subsequently taken into custody as authorities began investigating the circumstances surrounding the woman’s death.
However, the case has taken another turn following the suspect’s account of the incident. Panichi reportedly told investigators that he acted in self-defence, claiming that his girlfriend attacked him first with a knife. His lawyer also said that he suffered injuries during the incident.
Authorities are now working to establish what happened before the deadly confrontation. The woman’s body was transferred to a medical facility in Pavia for an autopsy, which is expected to help investigators gather further evidence.
The case has raised serious concerns as investigators work to establish the facts and determine responsibility. While the suspect has been detained, his claims of self-defence have yet to be independently confirmed.
