Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde has on Saturday issued a condolence message to the family of Jimoh Isiaka, one of the protesters calling for the ban of Federal Anti-Robbery Squad, F-SARS in Ogbomoso, Oyo State.
In a tweet, the governor said he has received with deep sadness the news of the passing of Isiaka, who was shot during the #ENDSARS protest in Ogbomoso. Makinde added that the young man later died at Bowen University Teaching Hospital, Ogbomoso, earlier on Saturday.
However, he called on all residents of the state to remain calm as he also urged the Police to allow residents of Oyo State to protest peacefully without fear of being assaulted.
Makinde said he has contacted the Commissioner of Police, Oyo State, Nwachukwu Enwonwu, and other relevant agencies, noting that investigations into what led to the unfortunate incident are still ongoing.
According to him, the #ENDSARS protests are a strong indicator of systemic failure and a failure on the part of those who have been constitutionally empowered to protect the citizens.
He said he expressed his deepest sympathies to the family of Jimoh Isiaka as he also prayed that his soul rests in peace.
Meanwhile, Aside from Isiaka, who was killed during the protest, Abdulrasaq Olawale, Oluwadamilare Gbolohunmi, and five other persons sustained injuries and were taken to hospital for treatment.
