lockdown
The lockdown order given by the president of Nigeria, Muhammed Buhari for a period of two weeks is on its second week already, and reports coming out suggest that there would be a possible extension to the lockdown due to the outbreak of coronavirus in Nigeria.
More often than not, couples tend to take out time from their busy work schedules to go on vacations outside their homes. These are usually for those whose job schedule comes between them and their spouses, this vacation is usually for a week or two weeks with so much activities to do together and so much places to visit for sight-seeing, allowing them engage in things that they both love indulging, spending quality time together.
The lockdown on the other hand is a compulsory stay-at-home order which gives couples little to no options on things to do because of the fact that they are stuck in their homes together. For some couples, this can be a good thing for their marriage as it might give them the time to properly bond all over again, get to know each other more deeply and intimately. While for some, this might signal a tough point in their marriage, maybe even a breaking point.
The idea of a divorce arises from different factors in a marriage, citing short-comings from your spouse, domestic violence, and other problems that were not obvious, or mostly manageable when they are not in each other’s face constantly.
In china, the country where the coronavirus outbreak originated from and the first country to start compulsory lockdown in their cities, recent reports show that the number of divorce cases in the space of three months increased drastically after people were forced to stay at homes with their spouses.
This has not been happening only in china, with other cities in the world that are on lockdown reporting similar situations among their married couples, and in Nigeria it is expected to be no different with the number of divorce cases expected to go up, mostly as a result of domestic violence between the partners. Spending a lot of time together in a small space usually pushes the limits of tolerance in for any person.
The question left to ask yourself now if you are in the same space with your spouse is if your marriage can stand the possible extension of this lockdown to another month. Hopefully you get the answer you want from yourself.
