In a move that has stirred excitement across Nigeria’s entertainment and sports circles, global music sensation David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has been appointed Chairman of the Osun State Sports Trust Fund.
The announcement, made by the Osun State Government on Wednesday, October 22, 2025, marks a significant step in Governor Ademola Adeleke’s plan to rejuvenate the state’s sports sector and foster youth development through active engagement and investment in athletics.

According to the statement, Davido’s new role will involve mobilising financial and material resources to drive the modernisation of sports facilities across Osun State. His appointment, the government noted, is part of a broader vision to make sports a cornerstone of economic and social growth within the state.
Confirming the appointment, Deputy Governor Kola Adewusi, who also serves as the Commissioner for Sports, disclosed that the award-winning singer eagerly accepted the position. He added that Davido’s influence and global reach will play a key role in attracting private investments and partnerships to support Osun’s sports initiatives.
“The ongoing rehabilitation of the Osogbo Township Stadium to meet Olympic standards will be completed in the shortest possible time. We are also finalising plans to establish the Osun State Sports Commission, which will serve as the central body for sports development and policy implementation,” Adewusi said.
He further explained that the Sports Trust Fund, under Davido’s leadership, is designed to ensure sustainable sports financing by encouraging contributions from individuals, corporate bodies, and philanthropists both within and outside Nigeria.
“Davido’s involvement is expected to attract substantial funds that will significantly impact the growth of sports in Osun,” the deputy governor added.
Governor Ademola Adeleke, who has consistently championed youth-focused policies since assuming office, reiterated his administration’s commitment to making sports a major pillar of development in the state.
Davido’s appointment has been widely praised, with many observers noting that it reflects the governor’s strategy of leveraging the influence and credibility of successful indigenes to advance Osun’s development goals.
For Davido, whose philanthropic initiatives and connection to Osun are well known, this marks yet another milestone that could reshape how music, influence, and governance intersect for public good.
