A suspended Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), Drambi Vandi, has been sentenced to death for the murder of Lagos-based lawyer, Mrs. Omobolanle Raheem.
The Lagos State High Court found the defendant guilty on one count of murder and he will be hanged by the neck until he is dead.
The presiding judge, Justice Ibironke Harrison, ruled that the prosecution had proven the case beyond all reasonable doubt.
Vandi was charged with shooting and killing the 41-year-old pregnant lawyer at the Ajah underbridge checkpoint on December 25, 2022, and faced one count of murder under the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
This verdict serves as a warning to those in positions of power that they will be held accountable for their actions and provides some closure for Mrs Raheem’s family and loved ones.
Reactions flooded various social media platforms as justice was finally served and the move to carry out the sentence is what Nigerians await.
