Nigerian Instagram celebrity Ramon Abbas popularly known as Hushpuppi would have to wait a bit longer to know his fate concerning his money laundering and cybercrime charge.
The United States District Court in California has postponed the date for the sentencing of the self-acclaimed real estate developer after his lawyer Louis Shapiro entered a request for postponement.
The initial date for the final hearing of the socialite was scheduled for February 14, 2022, but has now been postponed till July 11, 2022.
Hushpuppi Postpones Judgement Day
The sitting Judge at the Los Angeles court Otis D. Wright granted the order of Hushpuppi’s lawyer but is expected to remain in custody pending the period of the delay.
Hushpuppi was arrested in his live-in hotel in Dubai in June 2020 by the International Police (Interpol) and then transferred to the United States.
Hushpuppi who has pleaded guilty to money laundering was accused of duping people across different continents to the tune of millions of dollars.
The court document of the fresh order read, “At the request of counsel, the sentencing is continued to July 11, 2022, at 11:00 a.m.”
Hushpuppi could face up to 20 years of prison sentence since he pleaded guilty to the charges against him.
