Many have been lamenting the downsides of the naira note scarcity. Although the outcry is understandable, this set of people should be grateful for this government initiative.
On Sunday 19th February 2023, some commercial s@x workers were interviewed by the News Agency of Nigeria in Abuja. These s@x workers complained about the crippling effect that the scarcity has had on their business. They explained that due to scarcity, their customers have drastically reduced.
Additionally, they complained that customers with naira notes grossly underpriced them.
They lamented that even when negotiations were made and transactions were agreed upon, issues usually arose.
Miss Alexandria Tricia (pseudonym) narrated ordeals where customers would make transfers but she would not receive bank credit alerts. She alleged that customers might create fake alerts and exploit their services for free.
“They will want you to start the service immediately without getting an alert and when you refuse, some of them will start making trouble”, she told the interviewer.
Another worker said that many of her colleagues had temporarily quit the profession due to the hurdles.
This crippling effect that the scarcity has on prostitution has made it easier for marriages. As the supply and demand for prostitution services are low, we can only hope that marriages and relationships can thrive without the lure of adultery.
