Some hoodlums have burnt down major parts of the Anambra Broadcasting Service, ABS, and other valuable properties, including vehicles parked at the premises of the broadcast station.
The tragic incident happened on Monday, at Awada area, the location of the broadcasting station sited in the Onitsha part of the State.
According to news making the rounds, the arsonists reportedly stormed the station some few minutes after 4:00am, burning a building and two vehicles; a company bus and another vehicle belonging to a staff member of the station.
Eyewitness Narrates Hoodlums’ Tactics
One of the officials of the media house hinted that he witnessed the entire crime and would like to keep a discrete identity because he was working during the night shift and wouldn’t want to be identified by the miscreants.
The eyewitness narrated the ordeal faced in the hands of their attackers, saying, “There was an attack. In fact, one of the gunmen ordered another to kill those present, but he refused and we were mercilessly flogged.”
He pointed out that the hoodlums were fully armed and also burnt vehicles, as well as the broadcasting studio was equally torched, amongst other valuable and personal belongings.
Commenting on the development, Spokesperson of the State Police Command, Tochukwu Ikenga, who confirmed the incident, said it was a case of arson.
