The Commander of the Islamic police force, popularly known as Hisbah Police, Haruna Ibn-Sina, has announced the force’s new stance on mannequins in Kano state.
Haruna, who opined that Islam frowns on idolatry, ordered shops to use headless mannequins for advertising clothing. He added that the head on mannequins makes it looks like a human being.
Also, the Hisbah commander wants the head-on mannequins covered at all times, adding that Islamic teachings contradict public display of the shape of the breast and the bottom.
Meanwhile, some traders at a Christian-dominated part of the Kano state, Sabon Gari, have been displeased with the Hisbah’s order. A shop owner, Chinedu Anya, said using headless mannequins to display clothes would reduce their attractiveness to potential customers and affect his business.
Also, some younger Muslims have opined that Hisbah’s interpretation of some Islamic teachings on mannequins, among other topics, is wrong. A Muslim cleric noted that there is nothing wrong with a dummy except people bow down to it.
Hisbah Police
Some Nigerians noted that the Hisbah police had continued its push for the Islamic agenda in the North, despite condemnation from different quarters.
You will recall that the Hisbah group recently banned stylish haircuts, sagging trousers, and playing music at social events by disk jockeys and tricycle riders from adorning their vehicles with pictures considered obscene and against the tenents of Islam.
