A couple of weeks after increasing the fine for hate speech from 500,000 to 5 Million naira, the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) has fined a Lagos based radio station, Nigeria Info 99.3FM the sum of 5 million naira.
According to NBC, the radio station was fined the said sum for providing its platform to be used to promote unverifiably and inciting views capable of causing crime and public disorder.
While speaking on the station, a former presidential aspirant and former deputy governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Obadiah Mailafia, had alleged that a northern state governor is a commander of the terror group, Boko Haram.

Reacting to the decision of NBC to fine Nigeria info the sum of 5 million naira, Reno Omokri expressed concern that the commission NBC did nothing when the Kaduna state governor, Nasir El Rufai threatened to send European Union and United state of America observers home in body bags.
“NBC fined a radio station ₦5 million for broadcasting an interview they claim incites “public disorder”. This is the same NBC that did nothing when @Elrufai threatened to send @EUinNigeria and @USinNigeria observers home in “body bags”
He further stated that he was thinking of helping the radio station raise the fine to frustrate President Muhammadu Buhari’s plan to end free speech.
