The Acting Inspector-General of Police, IGP Alkali Baba, has ordered the immediate disbandment of the monitoring teams in Lagos State and PortHarcourt, Rivers State.
EveryEvery.ng gathered that the IGP gave the order following what he described as constant complaints of harassment and operating beyond their briefs over cases of investigations.
The Acting IGP ordered the disbandment- of the IGP Monitoring Satellite offices during his maiden meetings with Command Police Commissioners from the 36 states of the country and the Federal Capital Territory, FCT.
Other presents at the meeting include Zonal-AIGs. The IGP vowed to re-organize the IGP Monitoring Unit.
Acting IGP
The Police Boss and the Police Management Team had earlier held a strategic meeting with the Police Service Commission’s Chairman, Alh. Musiliu Smith and the commission’s top management on April 14 2021, at the Federal Secretariat Abuja.
The meeting discussed ways of improving collaboration between the Nigeria Police Force, NPF and PSC towards greater efficiency.
Earlier, the Acting IGP had met with Police Strategic Commanders in the South-South and the South-Eastern regions as part of the new Police leadership’s efforts to diagnose the region’s security threats critically.
The Acting IGP opined that the South-East and South-South geo-political zones of the country are critical in Nigeria’s socio-economic stability and growth.
According to him, the Police would not spare intelligence, operational and administrative efforts in surmounting the security challenges in the zones.
However, the IGP called for citizens’ support, noting that the operational strategies shall be in line with citizens’ consent, trust, and law rule.
