Kaduna State Governor, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai has reiterated the need for the restructuring of Nigeria.
According to El-Rufai, restructuring would strengthen federalism and national cohesion.
The governor made the call during a public lecture to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Arewa House in Kaduna.
He talked about how a constitutional framework will best enable the promise of Nigeria to manifest.
El-Rufai noted that the All Progressives Congress Committee on True Federalism had proposed a clear roadmap for implementing the recommendations on how to restructure the country.
The governor further stated that the Committee produced clear recommendations to strengthen federalism and subnational competition.
Furthermore, he stated that the committee made efforts to accelerate the implementation of its recommendations.
El-Rufai said the committee produced draft bills that incorporate the recommendations as proposed amendments to national laws.
The governor opined that the committee recommended that each state should be allowed to operate the system of local government that best suits its circumstances, culture and diversity.
However, he regretted that for some reasons the APC leadership has not implemented the report since it was submitted in January 2018.
El-Rufai said Nigeria must move from a century of being a nation of great potentials’ to summoning a determined national effort to achieve near-developed country status.
