Some residents of Gwagwalada Area Council of Abuja have counted their losses in the wake of the flood that submerged over 20 buildings in the area.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the flood which was caused by rain that started from Friday night to early hours of Saturday also submerged bridge and a hotel in Gwagwalada.
It was gathered that the flood had taken over Gwagwalada bridge linking Abuja to Lokoja hence forced some residents to either remain indoors or sail to safety.
Speaking with journalists, Some of the residents, described the flooding as a common occurrence in the community given its proximity to a riverine area.

A resident, Yunusa Dogo, whose house collapsed recounted that he was asleep when water submerged his house adding that the level of destruction caused by the flood as devastating.

Another resident, Sarah Luka said revealed that there was no way for the water to flow down to the stream in the whole community.
A motorist in the area, Sunday Kaka said he could not risk the danger of crossing the bridge as he parked his car before the flooded bridge, waiting for the water to subside.
