The federal government has flagged-off the cash grant for rural women in the South-East.
According to the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social development, Sadiya Umar Farouq launched the program in Ebonyi State on Thursday, November 19.
The Minister advised the women to make judicious use of the one-off 20, 000 cash grant by starting up petty businesses or adding the grant to already established small businesses.
Farouq stated that the program was established by President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration to lift 100 million Nigerians out of poverty in the next ten years.

She expressed optimism that the Ebonyi State government will assist the beneficiaries of the grants with advice, support and expertise to guide them with the business they decide to embark upon.
Responding, the Ebonyi State governor, David Umahi commended President Buhari for the initiative which according to him would go a long way in alleviating the suffering of rural women in the state.
He, however, urged the Minister to fashion out ways of appraising the program to assess their performance in the business or whatsoever they decide to venture into.
It was gathered that over 200 women from the 13 local government councils of Ebonyi State would benefit from the Federal government’s cash grant for rural women.
