3rd mainland bridge to undergo repairs for 6 months.
Federal Ministry of Works announced that it will closing down the popular 3rd Mainland bridge in Lagos for six months starting from July 24, 2020.
The ever-busy bridge has undergone a series of repairs with the last being a 3-day maintenance check in August 2018.
Speaking to News reporters on Monday July 6, Olukayode Popoola, the Federal Controller of Works in Lagos said the close down was for the second phase of repairs that would be carried out on the bridge. Currently, consultations were ongoing for the repairs.
Popoola said that the government was already working towards ensuring the seamless traffic during the period and that the repairs would start on the outward mainland region of the 11.8km bridge. According to him,
“We want to do maintenance work on Third Mainland Bridge very soon. Most likely on the 24th. We may close it from 24th of July.’’ “We are still working out the modalities and when we perfect the traffic management plan we will move to site. Everything being expected for the repairs of the bridge arrived the country that is why we want to start the repairs now,’’
