FC Barcelona of Spain has confirmed the signing of a former player who has been tagged Xavi‘s target for some time.
The Catalan club took to their official website to announce the signing of Ousmane Dembélé again after running out of contract.
Dembele’s contract expired at the end of the 2021/2022 season after several negotiations with the club since December hit a brick wall.
Dembele Accepts Pay Cut at FC Barcelona
The France international was linked with a move to Chelsea, but Barcelona has succeeded in getting his signature for the second time.
Several reports revealed that an agreement could not be reached because the club is going through a financial crisis, and the player refused a pay cut.
However, the 25-year-old winger has accepted a 2-year deal till 2024, with his salary now reduced by 40%.
Dembele initially joined Barcelona in 2017 for a reported fee of €105 million plus add-ons up to €40 million, becoming the joint-second most expensive player, alongside compatriot Paul Pogba.
Since moving to Spain, his career was marred with several injuries, but he has been able to keep himself fit since Xavi Hernandez returned as the coach.
