The All Progressives Congress, APC, Ekiti State Chapter has announced the suspension of the State governor, Dr Kayode Fayemi over alleged anti-party activities.
In a statement sent to Everyevery.ng newsdesk, members of the State Executive Committee, (SEC) said the decision to suspend the governor was reached after reviewing the activities of some members of the APC in Ekiti state during a meeting held on Wednesday, September 23.
The statement was signed by Senator Tony Adeniyi, Senator Babafemi Ojudu, Senator Ayo Adeyeye, Congressman Bimbo Daramola and Hon. Robinson Ajiboye.
Others who signed the statement on behalf of the Ekiti APC Executive committee are Hon. Oye Ojo, Hon. Adewale Omirin and Hon. Femi Adeleye.
Dr Fayemi was accused of not calling for meetings of the State Executive Committee since he assumed office in 2018, an act which was described as illegalities in the name of the party.
The SEC added that Fayemi neglected his duty to initiate ward congresses or call a meeting of the Executive Committee to deliberate upon pertinent issues.
Also, governor Fayemi was accused of numerous anti-party activities especially his role in the recently concluded governorship elections in Edo State which the SEC described as contrary to the provisions of Article 21 (A) (ii) of the APC constitution.
According to the SEC, Fayemi hosted a former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani Kayode in the government house in Ado Ekiti five days before the Edo state governorship elections.
“For five days prior to the Edo elections, Governor Fayemi hosted PDP big wig, Femi Fani Kayode in the government house in Ado Ekiti in the run-up to the Edo elections. It was there they perfected the coup against our party in Edo State.
This is same Fani Kayode who daily abuses President Muhammadu Buhari, Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo, the APC as a party as well a vital section of our country. We have evidence of that meeting, Fani-Kayode specifically said he has gone on his tour as part of an effort between him and Fayemi to build a cross-party alliance and few hours after leaving Ekiti he fired a shot at Asiwaju Tinubu.”
Some other allegations levelled against Dr Fayemi includes his role in the gubernatorial election in Oyo State where he reportedly supported the PDP candidate to defeat the party candidate.
“We recall his role in the governorship election in Oyo State where he supported the PDP candidate to defeat the APC candidate. The second tranche of money he sent to Gov. Makinde in the election was intercepted by soldiers. The courier, Mr Ayo Adegbite, his Chief protocol Officer was arrested and immediately disowned and announced his sack. Mr Adegbite remains his aide till date.”
“We also recall the support he provided a PDP candidate who challenged an APC Senator Prince Dayo Adeyeye in the Tribunal. He moved the Judges to Kaduna to deliver judgment when he knew what his planned against his party was unpopular in Ekiti.
In the meantime, the SEC has suspended the Paul Omotosho led faction of the APC Executive as it also appointed Senator Tony Adeniyi as the Acting Chairman of the State Executive Committee in accordance with the party’s constitution.
Everyevery.ng had reported that the APC in Ekiti State has on Thursday, September 24 suspended Babafemi Ojudu, the Special Adviser to President Muhammadu Buhari on political matters.
Other party members suspended are Oyetunde Ojo, Wole Oluyede, Ayo Ajibade, Femi Adeleye, Akin Akomolafe, Bamigboye Adegoroye, Olusoga Owoeye Dele Afolabi, Toyin Oluwasola and Bunmi Ogunleye.
