A former Minister, Ibe Kachikwu, has reacted to an allegation that he smuggled a stolen jaguar car to the United States of America. In a press release signed by his assistant on media, Prince Harrison, Kachikwu described the publication as false, misleading, and frivolous.
Prince Harrison said the publication by an online news medium that the former Minister smuggled a stolen jaguar car to the US is absurd and untrue.
According to Harrison, Ibe Kachikwu bought a Jaguar car from Dazz Motors Nigeria Ltd, Victoria Island, Lagos, in 2009. He said the company’s Managing Director then was Emmanuel Jack, adding that the former Minister paid fully for the car.
Harrison further stated that Kachikwu gifted the car to one of his relations in the US following due local customs processes after using it for some years.
Meanwhile, he explained that on arrival, the car was impounded by the US Customs on suspicion of being a stolen car and for emission control Infringement.
Ibe Kachikwu Breaks Silence
Harrison said the car was impounded because those in the US cannot use vehicles with European and African emission control specifications. He said no court case was initiated against Kachikwu after furnishing the US Customs with details of the car and purchase receipts.
Kachiwkwu’s aide added that the car dealer confirmed the facts and absolved the former Minister. He said the US customs discontinued the investigation because there was no proof that the vehicle was stolen, but the emission breach would not allow the car to be used in the US.
