Former Governor Joshua Dariye of PlateauState and his counterpart from Taraba State, Jolly Nyame, has been pardoned for crimes of misappropriation of public funds even after commencing their prison sentence.
According to the report, the Council of State, yesterday, authorized the pardon of 159 convicts, including Senator Dariye and ex-Governor Nyame, who were both imprisoned for stealing N1.16 billion and N1.6 billion respectively.
According to the Plateau Commissioner for Information, Dan Manjang, he disclosed that Dariye was pardoned for reasons that a second chance was offered for him to retrace his steps.
Speaking on the mood of the people of Plateau State, the commissioner hinted that every Plateau man is happy about it and kudos has been given to the President for honouring the state in this manner.
“We want to also thank whoever that has a hand in making it happen because everybody makes mistakes and you can make errors while in governance.” He pointed.
He further noted that the former governor has been given a reprieve as if nothing has happened, adding that nobody is above error.
He pointed out that the fact that the ex-governors were members of the APC had no bearing on their pardon, according to John.
He stated that both individuals were wrongfully convicted and that their pardon was a vindication of their innocence.
