The Kaduna State Governor, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai has ordered the closure of all schools in the state as part of efforts to contain the surge of COVID-19 infections.
According to a Press release signed by the Kaduna State Commissioner of Education, Shehu Usman, all schools have been directed to close by Wednesday, December 16 due to the rising cases of the COVID-19 infections in the state.
The Commissioner noted that the rise in the cases shows a replicate of figures recorded in the first wave of the pandemic in April, May and June 2020.
El-Rufai Orders Closure Of Schools
He revealed that the State government has directed all public and private schools to conclude all necessary arrangements and close on December 16 as opposed to the initial closing dates.
Usman added that all examinations must be concluded on or before Tuesday, December 15 in all institutions of learning to contain the spread of the pandemic and save lives of the people in the state.
The Commissioner stressed that physical classes in the Universities and other institutions of higher learning will not be held during the period of the closure.
He, however, advised the general public to adhere to all COVID-19 protocols to avoid the likelihood of the worst-case scenarios of the disease in the State.
The Commissioner also advised parents to support their children to continue learning while at home adding that a new resumption date will be announced later.
